Fueling stations store hydrogen in liquid form to minimize footprint and accelerate delivery. Hydrogen vehicles often run on compressed gas, however. Messer engineers developed the cryo pump to bridge this gap. It efficiently converts liquid hydrogen to high-pressure hydrogen, using a specially designed system of air heat exchangers and a temperature control unit to raise the temperature of the hydrogen to minus 40 degrees. The cryo pump generates a maximum pressure of up to 900 bar and reaches a fueling capacity of up to 120 kilos an hour. Ideally suited to high volumes, it leverages the advantages of direct, single-step liquid compression to reduce energy consumption to a minimum.
